Corben's GRIM WIT #1, published by the Rip Off Press in 1972 and reprinted by Last Gasp, contained "The Beast of Wolfton", a werewolf story written by Corben during his art school years. The story is about an underdog who is turned into a werewolf through sorcery, and Corben's artwork, while not as detailed as in Rowlf, is enhanced by his use of shading. Corben chose to model the werewolf after the Henry Hull character in the movie WEREWOLF OF LONDON (1935). The issue was well received and helped establish Corben as a master of horror comics.

2nd - 3rd printing (with Last Gasp logo in R of title, 2nd and 3rd believed indistinguishable).

"The Beast of Wolfton" and "Necromancer." Story, art and cover by Corben.

Mature readers.

Black and white; 32 pages.
