Voltar is a comic strip and comic book character created by Filipino illustrator Alfredo Alcala in 1963. The story is about Vikings and was first published in the Philippines by CRAF Publications, a comic book company established by Alcala himself. Despite being inspired by Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian novels, Voltar's illustrations were described as brilliant and unique for their time. Alcala wrote, illustrated, and published the series himself, making it one of the earliest epic comic book series to result from a single creator's vision. Voltar won awards in the Philippines and the United States and was recognized for its lavish, lushly-drawn comic book serial and spectacular center spread illustrations, which were embellished in an etching style that rivals the works of old masters.
